Summer in Moshi

What I have been missing lately…is the freedom to just be and what summer used to be - in Moshi at my grandparents house. Sadly they are all gone now. Now looking back it was one of my favorite childhood memories. For a month I was sent to my grandparents for summer holidays.

What I miss: The cry of a rooster as an alarm clock in the morning, the five calls to prayer (because there was a mosque close to their house), getting to see my cousins, eating fried fish from my favorite local food vendor. The fish was really good. I miss eating mangos that were harvested from my grandpa’s (Babu) mango orchard; I remember how he always had to stop me from eating too many because he was scared I would get a stomachache. And lastly I miss my grandma’s (Bibi) Pilau dish (don’t tell my mother, hers is good, but Bibi’s was the best). I now wish I had learned the recipe.

Fried Fish , homemade Fries and cucumber salad makes for an easy & great summer lunch.
